In March 2019, children with and without disabilities of Xa Dan Inclusive School in Hanoi were invited to join the activty Welcome to School Case as part of the We ring a Bell Event.
Based on the activity of Welcome to School Case, Research Center for Inclusion (RCI) design a chain of activities including games, discussion and presentation on the topic of inclusion. Through games and discussion, children explored how inclusive their school is and what can they do to make their school more 'inclusive'.
The children are very excited on the discussion activity. One pupil shared that in order to have an inclusive school where children with and without disability can enjoy going to school, each child with disability should have a tutor or a 'buddy' to support them to learn better. In addition to that, the learning time should be extended for children with disability so that they can study slowly but firmly.
In Hoa Binh, RCI's Partner Organization - MACDI organized a role play session in which children with and without disabilities interact with each other and put themselves in other's shoes to experience how children with disabilities go to school and what can do to support their friends.
It was a fun experience and all children were very excited with Welcome to School Case. RCI will disseminate Welcome to School Case' contents and activities to our network in Cambodia, Myanmar and Viet Nam.
